First Christian Church of Claremore (Disciples of Christ)

Chairperson's Corner

The first half of 2022 has passed, and we are a functioning church. I want to take time to reflect on this past six months. This year has been tough and challenging for everyone, and quite frankly, it was especially tough and challenging for me as your board chairperson. We began the year with Julie, as our interim minister. In February, Pastor Alexis came on board as our full-time minister. In March, we went to the movies and a few of us traveled to Jefferson City to witness Alexis’s ordination. There has been constant meetings and more meetings from Outreach, Finance & Trust, Church Life/Growth, Education, Board, Elders, Cabinet, Special Task Force/Renovation, By-Laws, Pastoral Relations, and Personnel meetings. In April, we executed a successful blood drive. We celebrated Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter together. In June, we had booths at Food Truck Thursday, Tulsa Pride and worshiped outside at Lake Claremore on a beautiful, cool morning.

I am looking forward to the next six months. We are planning to have guest speakers in August on two Sundays. The choir is going to reconvene in September. October 8th is our designated day for our field trip to the First American Museum. Then, of course, our celebrated Halloween Trunk or Treat event, followed by a planned Thanksgiving meal and Christmas celebrations.

Volunteers are needed for donut duty for the remainder of the year. A sign-up sheet is available in the Gathering Room.

We continue to make this building our new home. The Special Task Force/Renovation Committee is making great strides talking to area contractors and getting estimates to install flooring. The grant writing is underway. We are on the list for an asphalt parking lot with a local contractor very soon.

See you in Church,

Trudy Hedgpath

Board Chairperson
